Chapter Fourteen

I was enjoying being a daddy. I never knew I could love another person as much as I loved my ‘Mani bug’. I found myself waking up when she cried for a bottle. I hadn’t quite mastered changing her diapers but I was definitely trying my best. Victoria was almost 5 months old. Where did the time go? She looked just like me. We had the same brown complexion and big brown eyes. I loved her curly black hair and the way she smiled at me.

“Yung, can you fix me some cereal, please?” Isis asked. She was enjoying being a big sister. She loved to hold her and sing to her.

“Sure thing baby girl.”

“Was my sister crying again?” Isis sat at the kitchen table making silly faces to Victoria. They both laughed.

“Yes, she had a stinky diaper.” I smiled.

“Yuck, I will be glad when she can use the bathroom.”

“Me too,” We both laughed.

“I love the 1st grade. My teacher lets me go to the chalkboard and everything.”

I sat Isis’ cereal in front of her.

“That’s great sweetie. You are such a big girl.”

“Yes, I’m going to teach my brother and sister what I learned at school. They will be smart like me.”

“You are such a good big sister.”

“I know,” She wiggled around in her seat as she ate her cereal.

“Is your mommy still asleep?”

“I think so.” Isis wiped her mouth and headed to her room.

Chante was usually up by now. It’s already 6:30 a.m., and Isis needed to wash up and get ready for the bus at 7:40 a.m. I made my way into the master bedroom with Victoria in my hand. The bed was a mess and I noticed the bathroom light was on.

“Are you ok baby?”

“Yes and no,” I heard Chante flushed the toilet.

“What’s wrong?” I saw the look on her face. She appeared to have been crying.

“I just can’t believe this happened again.” She was holding a pregnancy test in her hand.

“Are you serious?” I shook my head and looked at our daughter.

“Well, don’t look at me. You played a part in this too.”

“Well, I’m here baby. I guess we will have to be more careful the next time.”

“Next time? How many times do you think I want to be pregnant? Victoria is five months old and I am probably a month pregnant right now. So when this baby is born, she’ll be fourteen months old.”

“Well, I know it was unexpected but the more the merrier. I will love this next baby just as much as I love Victoria and Isis.”

“I love you so much baby, but I don’t want any more after this. Carrying a baby takes a lot out of a woman. I just got back into my clothes and now I will be fat again.” Chante kissed me gently as the baby made her way back into my arms.

“But you are always beautiful to me, baby.” I kissed her.

“Thanks boo, but what about our finances? Do you think we’ll be ok?”

“Of course,” I said with confidence.
